Never heard of Max Baer? He was a heavyweight champ in the 30's who branched out (sorta) into movies about heavyweight champs in the 30's. You probably recognize the name as that of his son Max Baer Jr., better known as Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies.

Max Baer lost to Jimmy Braddock on 13 June 1935, giving us a solid date for this one.

Baer is rumoured to have been involved with the original blonde bombshell Jean Harlow.

According to http://www.perquiro.com/trivia/458_1.shtml, Max Baer once shouted out in the middle of a heavyweight title boxing fight, "Ma, he's killing me!"
